September 2020

A Letter from the President

I hope this email finds you safe and well.

Save the Date for the next LSI Educational Event!  the 4th annual Rush Lupus Clinc & LSI Patient Education Event will take place VIRTUALLY on December 5, 2020.  We'll have the same in-depth, relevant presentations with topic experts and the Rush Lupus Clinic doctors will be available to answer your questions.

We are only able to provide educational opportunities at no cost thanks to YOU!  Our supporters and donors mean everything to us.

We're looking for supporters to make a monthly donation for the next 12 months.  These are challenging times, we know, and we would be so honored by your donation.

Typically at this time of year we are working closely with our Lupus Charity Runner Bank of America Chicago Marathon team.  We've had teams in the race since 2007!  We were still recruiting runners when we started social distancing in March.  Several weeks ago, the race was cancelled.  We'll miss meeting and cheering on our runners this year and we thank everyone who was planning to run for LSI.

Thanks to COVID-19, the Chicago Marathon is VIRTUAL this year!  Anyone registered for the event can run a virtual marathon - and this year they have other distances (starting at 1 mile) that are free as well.  See the information below or contact mary@lupusil.org for more.

the 2020 Virtual Lupus Walk was a great success!  Funds are still coming in and contests are still going on through the end of September.  We have awesome incentive prizes.

If you weren't able to watch the Facebook Live Grand Finale on September 5th - you can watch the entire program here.

We talked to many of our dedicated walkers prior to the finale.  you can see some of their stories below and you can also visit our YouTube page for more here.

We are so grateful for the support we have received from the lupus community during these challenging times.

Every dollar counts!  Your funds go directly to our resources and services.

Together we make a difference.

Mary Dollear

Fatigue & Lupus

A major problem for people living with lupus is fatigue – chronic debilitating fatigue that significantly decreases quality of life and increases the risk of work disability.

How does someone manage fatigue?  Finding strategies that work for you and for lupus patients in general is the purpose of the Lupus Intervention Fatigue Trial (LIFT).

RUSH Lupus Study
STUDY OF OMEGA-3 REPLACEMENT WITH KRILL OIL IN TREATMENT OF SYSTEMIC LUPUS ERYTHEMATOSUS

The study is a 24 week randomized, double-blind controlled multicenter study followed by an open label extension treatment for another 24 weeks. The purpose of this study is to determine whether the correction of the omega-3 deficiency may reduce disease activity in SLE patients.
