November 2024

A Letter from the President

I hope this email finds you well!

The holidays are upon us and in a few weeks, we'll be celebrating a new year!

Before that we have one more educational event - and it's a great one!

Saturday, December 7th is the Rush Lupus Clinic & LSI Educational Event.  We have four terrific presentations, a Q&A with the Rush Lupus Clinic Physicians and plenty of opportunities to meet others in the lupus community.

Dr. Meenakshi Jolly has been instrumental in bringing Saturday's annual event to fruition and we are so grateful she always prioritizes lupus education.

We hope we'll see you there for the last big lupus event of 2024!

GivingTuesday is coming up on December 3rd GivingTuesday reimagines a world built upon shared humanity and generosity.  GivingTuesday is invested in communities around the globe with a mandate to propel generosity across every culture, continent, and context.

GivingTuesday is the day to donate, volunteer, educate, and help your community.

LSI welcomes your donation at this time of year.  If you’ve been to an educational event, benefitted from the financial assistance grant, participated in the Illinois Lupus Walks or helped educate your community about lupus, you know how important our work is.  You make all of these activities possible.

This time of year, as we prepare our calendars for the next year, we are inviting you to donate to our mission.  Serving the lupus community is our priority and we are able to accomplish that thanks to our sponsors, grantors and donors.

Asking for donations isn't easy but the reality is, we can't provide individual service to the lupus community without funding.

In this season of giving, we hope that you will consider making a holiday donation.  We are honored by your generosity.

Together, we make a difference.

Mary

Stacey Kennedy-Conner

Black Doctor Org features story with
LSI Associate Board President
Stacey Kennedy-Conner

"Living with lupus is a journey marked by resilience, and few stories capture this better than that of Stacey Kennedy-Conner. Diagnosed as a teenager, Kennedy-Conner has spent years navigating the unpredictable and often debilitating challenges of lupus. But rather than allowing her diagnosis to limit her, Kennedy-Conner has transformed her experiences into a powerful platform for advocacy and education."

SUPPORT GROUP UPDATE

A note from the leader

We decided to get crafty at our lupus support group meeting yesterday while we talked about heavy topics, like dealing with lupus, losing loved ones, etc. It was very soothing so we decided to do it again at a future meeting. Thanks to Cathy for providing the supplies! We made whale ornaments (Cathy knows my love of whales) and had a great meeting.

LSI's Support Groups are an amazing resource. Meetings are run by lupus warrior volunteers who commit themselves to leading meetings and serving their communities.

You can find the LSI's support groups listed here and on our calendar here.

RESEARCH OPPORTUNITIES

Fatigue & Lupus

A major problem for people living with lupus is fatigue – chronic debilitating fatigue that significantly decreases quality of life and increases the risk of work disability.

How does someone manage fatigue?  Finding strategies that work for you and for lupus patients in general is the purpose of the Lupus Intervention Fatigue Trial (LIFT).
