January 2025

A Letter from the President

I hope this email finds you well!

2025 is shaping up to be an exciting year for LSI.

We have an important educational event coming up next month.  The Cutaneous Lupus Educational Webinar will be presented by Dr. Paras Vakharia.  Dr. Vakharia is a dermatologist and pharmacist at Northwestern Medicine. He is part of the rheumatology-dermatology team at Northwestern, with a focus on lupus and other autoimmune diseases.

Below you'll find information on two educational events we hosted.  The Rush Lupus Clinic & LSI Educational event on December 7, 2024 was a great success.  thanks to everyone at RUSH for helping to make this event possible.  You can find the presentations from most of the presentations here.

And Lupus Warriors LaShon Gurrola, MSN, APRN, FNP-BC and Dion Langley, hosted the third event in their series Physical and Mental Health Through Music.  You can watch this event in full here.

If you’ve been to our social media pages, you’ll notice we have started posting new content.  This is thanks to Lisa Klaslo and a new volunteer, Ke'Lynn Brummell.

Be sure to check out our posts and then LIKE and SHARE them to help get the word out.

New this year is the LSI Associate Board’s Soccer Match Event.  Tickets have a face value of $45 but the AB is selling them for $36. Find out more and purchase your tickets here.

Finally, a word of thanks to everyone who has donated to LSI this past year.  We are able to work toward our mission thanks to your generosity.  Thank you.

Together, we make a difference.

RESEARCH OPPORTUNITIES

Fatigue & Lupus

A major problem for people living with lupus is fatigue – chronic debilitating fatigue that significantly decreases quality of life and increases the risk of work disability.

How does someone manage fatigue?  Finding strategies that work for you and for lupus patients in general is the purpose of the Lupus Intervention Fatigue Trial (LIFT).
