April 2024

A Letter from the President

I hope this email finds you well!

Spring is here and it's only a matter of time before we are celebrating Lupus Awareness Month in May.  We have two educational events to invite you to.

First, on May 3rd, LSI is thrilled to partner with Lupus Warriors LaShon Gurrola, MSN, APRN, FNP-BC and Dion Langley, Independent Drummer, Lupus Advocate and CEO/President #BeatLupus LLC on a multi-part series on "Where Medicine Meets Music."  The Topic on May 3rd is Alternative Pain Management with Music Therapy."  This live event will be live-streamed on LSI's Facebook page from 7:45pm-8:30pm.  Questions?  Contact us at 312-542-0002 or info@lupusil.org.

And on May 18th, LSI is hosting our Empowering Lupus Patient Educational Event! The event's agenda is posted below.  We hope to see you there - you  can register for the event here.

We hope to see you at both events.

It wouldn't be springtime if we didn't tell you about our upcoming Illinois Lupus Walks!  Our 2024 Illinois Lupus Walks and the Walk Committees are busy at work making plans and ensuring these are the best walks ever!

If you are interested in taking a more active role in the lupus community and helping to shape the Illinois Lupus Walks, I suggest joining a Walk Committee!

This year's Chicago Walk is in a new location we think will be more accessible for everyone.  Arvey Park is near Museum Campus in Grant Park and the beautiful lakefront; which should make the walk routes especially lovely!

the Lupus Charity Runners team for the  2024 Bank of America Chicago Marathon has recruited all of our guaranteed runner spots!  If you have a lottery spot in the marathon, you can still join Lupus Charity Runners!  Contact me at mary@lupusil.org.

The LSI Associate Board is hosting another Bulls Game!  Tickets are sold out!  Be sure to watch the Game on Friday and keep an eye out for the LSI section!

We look forward to seeing you soon!

Together we make a difference.

Mary

RESEARCH OPPORTUNITIES

Fatigue & Lupus

A major problem for people living with lupus is fatigue – chronic debilitating fatigue that significantly decreases quality of life and increases the risk of work disability.

How does someone manage fatigue?  Finding strategies that work for you and for lupus patients in general is the purpose of the Lupus Intervention Fatigue Trial (LIFT).

Lupus Clinical Trial Opportunity

If you have lupus, you may qualify.
• Do you have active lupus that is not responding to your current medications?
• Are you between the ages of 18-65?
If so, you may be eligible to participate in a clinical trial testing if a new type of cellular therapy is effective and safe in treating active lupus.
