Happy Valentines Day!

Thanks to the presenters at last weekends Empowering Lupus Patients Educational Event.  About 60 participants took part in the event that included a discussion about research a presentation on Aromatherapy and an instructional talk from a Laughologist!  Like all of our educational events, you can download the presentations and/or handouts from our website or from the article below.

Our next educational event will be "Lupus Update with Dr. Rosalind Ramsey Goldman" presented via web meeting on Thursday, April 18, 2019.  Registration is FREE and REQUIRED to obtain the access code.  We hope you'll be able to join us.

Congratulations are also in order for the RUSH Lupus Support Group that celebrated its one year anniversary last Saturday!  Thanks to the support group leader LaShon who has dedicated so much time and energy into making this group a success!  All of our support group leaders are volunteers and their commitment and dedication is inspiring.  Thanks to all of them!

Whenever we talk about our programs and services, we have to discuss our Illinois Lupus Walks - because we simply couldn't provide the programs and services without the success of these events.  Our Walks are fun and full of friendly people.  Besides being an important fundraiser they are also awareness builders!  Many in the lupus community first hear about us from the Illinois Lupus Walks and then benefit from our free programs and services.  If you haven't been to an Illinois Lupus Walk, we hope to see you there and if you have, now's the time to register for 2019!  You can find out more here.

RUSH Support Group Celebrates 1 Year Anniversary - Congrats LaShon!

On Feb 9, 2019- the LEARN@Rush Lupus Support Group celebrated its 1 year anniversary.  In conjunction with Lupus Society of Illinois, Rush Rheumatology & Rush Generations the support group has been a great resource for many people living with lupus and their families.  The group has grown over the last year and celebrated the combined efforts and accomplishments!  The group looks forward to another year of Learning, Educating, Raising Awareness, & Networking!

Together with Northwestern University and Dr. Rosalind Ramsey-Goldman, the LSI is looking for individuals identifying with African-American, Black and/or Afro-Carribean descent to participate in a focus group to discuss this group's participation in clinical trials and evaluate the effectiveness of current clinical trial education and participation programs. 

The focus group is part of a project entitled Clinical Trials Awareness Modules for the Lupus Conversations Academic-Community Partnership. The study will conduct focus groups in two cities (Boston and Chicago) and discuss information on the range and diversity of positive and negative feelings about participating in trials.

60 Participants Enjoy Empowering Lupus Patients Educational Event

On Saturday, February 9, 2019, 60 participants gathered for the LSI's annual Empowering Lupus Patients Educational Event.  The event is designed to provide information to empower participants living with lupus. This year's event Empowering Lupus Patients Educational Event included a discussion about research and lupus, Aromatherapy and lupus and a presentation from a Laughologist.  

Surveys indicate the event was a big success!  Thanks to our wonderful presenters, Julie Folger, RN, BSN, Certified Professional Aromatherapist, Dr. Kathy O'Brien, RN and Laughologist and Patricia Canessa, PhD.

Making a Difference 

Sometimes awareness opportunities appear in unlikely places. Such was the case when a young woman working towards a Girl Scout Badge made a video of her experiences with lupus.  Thank you, Akayla, for sharing your story and working to inform the public about lupus!
