November 2023

A Letter from the President

I hope everyone had a safe and pleasant holiday!

The holidays are upon us and in a few weeks, we'll be celebrating a new year!

Before that we have one more educational event - and it's a great one!

Saturday is the Rush Lupus Clinic & LSI Educational Event.  We have four terrific presentations, a Q&A with the Rush Lupus Clinic Physicians and plenty of opportunities to meet others in the lupus community.

Parking in the Rush Parking Lot is covered and we have wonderful refreshments thanks to the Searle Center's catering.

Dr. Meenakshi Jolly has been instrumental in bringing Saturday's annual event to fruition and we are so grateful she always prioritizes lupus education. You can read up on her in the Hyde Park Herrld's article (click here).

We hope we'll see you there for the last big lupus event of 2023!

Also in this newsletter, Lisa Klaslo is talking to the Lambda Sigma Lupus Sorority about Lupus Resources.  Download the flyer with access information here.  If you are interested in having a presentation on lupus or lupus resources, please let us know.  As part of our mission, we accommodate lupus educational opportunities if possible. Contact us at info@lupusil.org or call 312-542-0002.

Thanks to everyone who helped make GivingTuesday a success.  If you donated,  volunteered or educated your community about lupus, you have helped move our mission forward! Thank you!

This time of year, as we prepare our calendars for the next year, we are inviting you to donate to our mission.  Serving the lupus community is our priority and we are able to accomplish that thanks to our sponsors, grantors and donors.

Asking for donations isn't easy but the reality is, we can't provide individual service to the lupus community without funding.

In this season of giving, we hope that you will consider making a holiday donation.  We are honored by your generosity.

We are still looking for your memories!  As we celebrate our 50th Anniversary, we want to hear from you!  Take a moment to share your recollections with us online here or post it on social media using #LSI50!

In 50 years, we've come so far.  Together, we make a difference.

Fatigue & Lupus

A major problem for people living with lupus is fatigue – chronic debilitating fatigue that significantly decreases quality of life and increases the risk of work disability.

How does someone manage fatigue?  Finding strategies that work for you and for lupus patients in general is the purpose of the Lupus Intervention Fatigue Trial (LIFT).

Lupus Clinical Trial Opportunity

If you have lupus, you may qualify.
• Do you have active lupus that is not responding to your current medications?
• Are you between the ages of 18-65?
If so, you may be eligible to participate in a clinical trial testing if a new type of cellular therapy is effective and safe in treating active lupus.
